The Brunswick County Literacy Council needs volunteers for the following programs:
NC Works— Volunteers to sit at the unemployment office and fill out intake forms to pass on to us at the Literacy Council for follow up.
Brunswick County Health Department – Volunteers to sit and read to children while they wait for their appointment, fill out intake forms for adults to pass on to us at the Literacy Council.
Brunswick County Detention Center – Volunteers who are willing to go in to the jail and work with inmates who want their GED in a classroom situation.
Brunswick County Drug Court – Volunteers needed to sit and complete intake forms for the client that needs assistance in getting their GED, or basic literacy assistance in reading.
Tutors – Volunteers needed to tutor in the areas of Reading and Math as well as ESL.
Book Share – Volunteers to look through donated books and separate them by age level.
Volunteers to scan incoming books in order to keep track of all books on- line.
Office Assistance – Volunteers to help with clerical, answering telephones, filing, mail and e-mail preparation, data entry, making copies, and helping to organize teaching materials, etc.
Fundraising and Events Support– Work on fundraising events, such as the Adult Spelling Bee and Golf Tournament.
Board of Director– Serve as a board member because you believe in our mission, “Providing literacy skills for adults ages 16 and above”.
